Reviewing Background Check Results

We offer assistance in clarifying the results of a background check run on an applicant.

Backgrounds Online tries to make reviewing results of background checks as simple and straightforward as possible. Members of our staff are happy to assist clients as they begin to learn the background check process and what various terminology on the results means. Backgrounds Online has also provided glossaries on its website for employers to utilize should they need help with specific definitions.

It is important to note that it is also acceptable to ask the job applicant questions when reviewing results of their report. Often times, an open conversation between an employer and a job applicant can clarify gaps in employment history or other things that may seem questionable. A perfect example of this is as follows: a Backgrounds Online client had what seemed to be the perfect candidate in every way except one thing. The results of his credit report, however, were not what the company was looking for. Backgrounds Online staff recommended that the employer sit down and talk with the candidate and when they did, they found out that the candidate’s wife had been hospitalized with cancer for almost a year, causing him to fall behind on his bills. Once that was cleared up, the employer offered the candidate the job.

There are companies who may have strict policies that cannot be worked around, no matter what sort of explanation an applicant can give; however, if at all possible, if any confusion arises on the results of a background check, it is completely acceptable to have a discussion with the applicant.
