Sources commonly returning results include, but are not limited to, the following:

• State records
• State correctional/probation incarceration departments
• State and county courthouses

To remain compliant with the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), we are required to initiate a County Criminal search to substantiate any hits returned on your applicant. The FCRA requires validating the source of any record found in a database because there is no legal authority dictating the accuracy or frequency of the records being updated.

The Nationwide Criminal Database is a very broad type of search which lacks the specific focus and quality of information returned by a statewide or county criminal hand search. However, it is a good addition to supplement the rest of the background check.

For these reasons, Backgrounds Online does not recommend our clients utilize this report as a single measure for criminal history screening. We suggest utilizing a focused blend of statewide and county specific searches, along with a database, which will deliver far more reliable and accurate data.
